Christina Bertea joined the WEAD Board in 2013 and is currently a member of the website committee and exhibitions committee. She enjoys using found and repurposed materials to create art that enhances awareness of our relationship to water and the urgency of sequestering carbon in the soil. A union-trained plumbing contractor, she has worked with Greywater Action for over 14 years, educating the public about water conservation through use of greywater, rainwater, and compost toilet systems. She has installed rain and greywater systems throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. In the early 90s, she designed and built a permitted passive-solar rammed-earth cottage as urban infill in Oakland, California. Christina is a certified Harner Method Shamanic Counselor. When carving stone, she collaborated with the “spirit” in the stone to create pieces that often reflected shamanic values. Christina believes wholeheartedly in the power of art to impact culture and attract people to sustainable behaviors.
