Martina Hynan

Artist Statement / Bio

Martina Hynan is an feminist artist researcher based in Co. Clare, Ireland. Her interdisciplinary research-with-art practice project contends that birth is an emplaced ecological process and event and proposes that birth be reframed within the more-than-human world. Martina's work sits at the intersection of Visual Culture, Feminist Environmental Humanities, Medical Humanities, and Irish Studies. She has worked as artist, curator and community activist for many years and has taught visual culture at undergraduate and master’s levels. Her art practice explores the co-creative, or sympoietic, entanglement of people with place, of the human with the non-human. Her material practice includes biomaterials, such as bioplastics and papermaking.
