Exhibiting Artists' Presentations

October 17, 2024

The call for this exhibition was to submit art that explored the deep and complex human relationships with lands and soils. Those relationships are sometimes based on listening and reciprocity, sometimes scarred by exploitation and toxicity. From colonization, war, and industrial agriculture, to reciprocity, stewardship, and respect; from minute microbial life to vast landscapes; lands and soils reflect choices to live in unity with, or in subjugation of the natural world.

Participating artists in this first of three sets of presentations include: Katherine Binns, Barbara Boissevain, Pamela Casper, Vicki Gunter, Elizabeth Kenneday, Petra Kuppers, Perry Meigs, Judit Navratil, Janet Powers, Lisa Reindorf, Joanne Ross, Eliza Thomas, Alyssa Wigant, and Anne Yoncha.

Kinship with Birds in Flight and Plight:
Part 3

Exhibiting Artists' Presentations

Devember 5, 2023

Q&A recording

This is a special opportunity to hear what the artists were thinking in the choice of subject and development of their pieces. The call invited them to submit "work related to challenges facing birds, that either celebrates conservation successes or signals the need for urgent interventions". That was a very broad invitation. How did the artists arrive at their particular focus and express it in form? What awareness are they encouraging in the viewing public? Artists include: Hilary Baker, Christina Bertea, Kate Gorringe-Smith, Cynthia Jensen, Danielle Kunkel, Vida Pavesich, Annie Rapstoff, Sheila Metcalf Tobin, Michelle Waters, Nanette Wylde

Art of Healing Water

Christina Bertea, WEAD Board

February 21, 2023

Follow along as eco artist / plumber / greywater & rainwater reuse activist Christina Bertea marvels at how her life led to helping design embellishments for a cutting edge “green” sewage treatment plant in Tecate, Baja CA. What makes this gentle, passive, biological “water healing plant” unique? How does it work? Celebrate the visionary instigators (and the microbial heroes) of this project to transform “waste” into public benefit: CA title 22 irrigation water, high quality compost, electricity, community education, beauty. This romp should be a fun mix of provocative art, science, and hopefully, inspiration! Recorded at Counter Culture Labs February 21, 2023
